Cabinet Making

The term "Cabinet Making" used to be specific about the surfaces in the kitchen and bathroom. Now, it means almost anything in most every room in the house. Cabinet makers, especially custom cabinet makers, are in high demand in the housing industry. Even in existing homes, homeowners are reviving older cabinetry and boosting the value of the home by hiring the custom cabinet maker to come in and remodel, resurface, reface and even add cabinetry.
Bookshelves, wardrobes, entertainment cabinets, closet organizers and many other enhancements through the house have become classified as cabinets. The cabinets have also come to be manufactured by materials other than wood. Certainly wood is still the choice of the cabinet maker, however, other materials have been improved upon to the point that they have become easier to manipulate to look as though they are made of wood. Most cabinet materials are still worked using the same tools and methods with which woodworkers are familiar.
Cabinet makers have also become more technically advanced in training and methods than they were even as recently as a few years ago. Today, many cabinet designs are drawn by computer programs and printed on blueprints. Every fraction of an inch in the available space is used to the fullest extent possible. Even kitchen cabinets have progressed to the point that the standard sizes you used to buy already built in the home improvement stores, will only make up about half of the cabinet space. The rest of the space in the kitchen is made up of specific shapes, functions, storage spaces, heights, colors, curves and most of all, aesthetics.
The bathroom vanity has become as intricately designed as any other cabinet or fixture in the home. Even the closets have become design focal points where the craftsmen experiment with new, lightweight composite and other alternative materials.
There is still a demand for the old standard in cabinets, but that is giving way to the new standard in the more highly technologically advanced method of furnishing the home with custom cabinetry.
